Review for Podcast Our Bodies, Ourselves

Updated: May 26, 2020

“Well, I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. Now, this is just my hunch.”

Trump’s words remind me of the starting point of the outbreak of COVID-19 in China in January 2020.

At that time, through the "gossip" with my friend comes from Wuhan and the news that was removed after only a short time in the hot microblog search, I gradually realized how terrible the virus was and how bad the circumstance was.

After that, I felt angry, scared and helpless.

So, when I heard the podcast, the familiar feeling came back.

We are being concealed.

What's really necessary is for the people in the government who don't know the details to stop telling us things like, “there will be a vaccine in one year.” That's not helpful.

This also made me realize that, in the face of the information of the epidemic situation, the first-time concealment is what many countries will do, not only China. Of course, this may be for the sake of stabilizing the economy, the people's hearts, or good political achievements.

Jon Cohen, a staff writer for Science, of the interviewees talks about the various difficulties of reporting on COVID-19. She mentioned that the National Association of Science Writers put out a statement calling on the Trump administration to allow government experts to speak freely.

Seeing the motherland slowly turn the virus situation around with the strength of the whole country, I hope that people around the world will not be defeated by the virus. Take care of personal protection. The days that can travel freely will return soon!
